Abstract
In the Dutch Wadden Sea, a major post-nuptial moulting area for waders, three wader species were investigated for metal contamination using mainly the feathers as monitoring tissue. All four elements—mercury, arsenic, selenium and zinc—were detected at sometimes highly elevated levels. The implications are discussed.
